Parrot Pandemonium at the Museum

On Thursday Room 9 and some wonderful parent helpers walked through the Cathedral grounds to the amazing Nelson Provincial Museum to see Nicki.

We learnt lots of interesting facts about our native parrots and other birdlife in New Zealand.  Here is a clip to show you how much we did.

Visitors to Room 9

On Tuesday we had some visitors to the classroom.  Helen, the school's Health Nurse with Janice a trainee nurse popped in to remind us of the importance of keeping healthy with the cold weather around the corner.

They showed us, by using glitter, how easy it is for nasty germs and bugs to get around.  By coughing and sneezing into our elbow, or making sure we use a tissue and throw it away after we have used it, we will help keep those bugs away.  We all knew how important it was to wash our hands properly after we have been to the toilet, before we eat and if we cough or sneeze into our hands.

Then, we met Ella (Kathryn's daughter from Nelson Intermediate) who came to help us learn about tinting warm and cool colours.  This is where we add white to a colour to make it lighter.

Discovery Time

Check out the latest photos of our favourite time of the week ... Discovery Time!

We are learning how we can relate well to others through cooperating, sharing, listening to others and being kind and fair.

The Creation Station is a real hit.  Keep that recycling coming in!!

PURPLE CAKE DAY - FRIDAY, 20th MARCH

Purple Cake Day is THIS Friday.  Remember to come dressed in purple and donate a gold coin to this worthy cause.

Pohutukawa Syndicate are also running a cake stall to raise money.  We are asking families to bring in some yummy baking - cupcakes / biscuits / slice - decorated in purple if you can!  These can be bought by NCS students in the horseshoe at lunchtime.

Check out the newsletter for our winning Cake Stall advertisement by a Room 9 student.  All the entries can be viewed below in this slideshow.  Great job!

Last week many of Room 9 supported the Totara Syndicate's fundraiser and rode their wheels at lunchtime, donating a gold coin to Purple Cake Day.  Everyone had a great time, and we had no crashes!

Purple Cake Day Speech By Room 9 Students

After many technical difficulties, I have now managed to upload the speech to our Blog - I am very sorry for the delay!!

Juno and Matthew worked very hard researching information and putting together a speech for the whole school to promote Purple Cake Day.  They spoke wonderfully at assembly and really ignited Nelson Central School's interest in this worthy cause.

My Special Place

Room 9 students wrote about a special place they have.  They were then brought to life in ICT time when Tania helped the students use Tux Paint to create their pictures.
Check out the slide show of our Special Places.
