Food for Thought Pohutukawa Lunch
The teachers of Pohutukawa Syndicate, with the help of some wonderful Room 11 parents, put on a tasty lunch for some of the students. Eating like an orphan (NCS style) was well received by about 36 students. Check out some photos on this slideshow. We raised around $150 - great effort!!

Ride On Scooter Safety Skills
Thank you to Marty Clark's team who came to Nelson Central School to help us learn all about being safe on our scooters. Room 9 and the rest of the Syndicate really enjoyed their sessions.
We learned the safest way to use our scooters - stopping, braking, and turning corners as well as having a lot of fun. Watch the video and see for yourselves!

Descriptive Writing in Room 9
At writing time the students in Room 9 are enjoying writing descriptions using lots of interesting adjectives.
The descriptions of Mr Willy Wonka are certainly worth a read. Here are a few to whet your appetite. Call in to the classroom to check out some of our other clever writers, and talented artists.

Willy
Wonka wears a velvet coat and a black hat.
He poses and jumps. Willy Wonka
wears a bowtie. He is crazy and
funny. Wonka has white hair. He has blue eyes and rosy cheeks. I like Willy Wonka because he is funny.
By
Casey
Willy Wonka is funny. I like him because he runs fast and he has a
black hat. He rushes along the
corridor. He is the best chocolate maker
and he makes me laugh!

Willy Wonka is silly and has a
black hat. He is wise and runs a
lot. Sometimes he skips but not with a
skipping rope. He is friendly.

FinCross Country Training
The Pohutukawa Syndicate are well underway with the Cross Country training, preparing for the School Cross Country event on Friday, 12th June.
It's a long way, but most of us can see how much we are improving with every practice. Keep up the good running, Room 9.

The class treat was a HIT
Last Friday Room 9 celebrated completing their Class Chart by reaching 100 scales. After extensive discussion, it was voted that the class would earn a movie and popcorn afternoon. Kathryn was pleased how all the students seemed to enjoy the new release movie, "The Box Car Children" The popcorn didn't go as far as she expected though. Next time we will have to make sure we get plenty more.
We have already started filling up the chart for the next treat.

Large Ball Skills with No Child Left Inside
This term Jane from No Child Left Inside is teaching Room 9 skills using large balls. This week we were learning how to control the ball while we passed it around different parts of our bodies and then demonstrated great skill when we bounced the ball.
We can't wait for next time.
